Our Mission
What Is a Traumatic Birth?
You may have heard the phrase “all that matters is a healthy baby.”
But the truth is—your experience matters too.
If your birth left you feeling scared, helpless, or deeply shaken, you may have had a traumatic birth.
And no, you're not overreacting. What you felt is valid.
What Makes a Birth Traumatic?
A traumatic birth isn’t just about what happened medically.
It’s about how it made you feel—especially if you felt powerless, afraid, ignored, or unsafe.
A birth may feel traumatic if:
-
You feared for your life or your baby’s life
-
You experienced intense pain, loss of control, or panic
-
Your wishes were dismissed or not respected
-
There were unexpected medical interventions or complications
-
You felt neglected, alone, or unheard by your care team
-
You experienced a C-section, NICU stay, or emergency situation
-
You felt shame, guilt, or numbness afterward
Trauma is personal—what deeply affects one mom may not affect another the same way.
If it felt traumatic to you, it matters.
What You Might Be Feeling Now
Even weeks or months later, you might still be processing your birth. You might:
-
Avoid thinking or talking about it
-
Replay certain moments in your mind
-
Feel anger, sadness, or grief about how it went
-
Have trouble bonding with your baby
-
Feel anxious, hyper-alert, or emotionally detached
-
Wonder, “Why can’t I just move on?”
These are real and valid responses to trauma. You're not “too sensitive” or “dwelling.”
Your body and mind are still protecting you from a deeply stressful event.
You Deserve to Heal
Healing from a traumatic birth takes time—and you don’t have to do it alone.
Therapy can help you:
-
Process what happened in a safe, supportive space
-
Understand your emotions without judgment
-
Rebuild trust in your body and yourself
-
Learn calming tools for anxiety and stress
-
Regain a sense of peace and control
